Here are answers to the questions our Tech Support team is asked most often about the ThermoPop.
How do I care for and use my ThermoPop 2?
- The best way to extend the life of your ThermoPop 2 is to clean it properly after each use. Wipe it off with a damp, soapy cloth or paper towel. Do not submerge it or put it in the dishwasher.
- Avoid overheating your ThermoPop 2. Never put the probe directly onto hot coals or into an open flame, or in liquids over 572°F (300°C). Never leave your ThermoPop 2 inside an oven, grill, smoker, or microwave. Do not expose the entire thermometer to temperatures over 190°F (88°C).
- Store your ThermoPop 2 in a secure place with the protective sheath covering its probe. Sharp knives or other kitchen instruments can cause damage if they jostle around together.
- Clean the probe immediately after each measurement to avoid cross-contamination.
My ThermoPop 2 won’t turn on. Why?
The first thing to check is the battery. It should be installed with the positive side (the side with the writing) up and the hazard sticker removed. Also, there is a metal tab at the top of the battery compartment. If the battery is not under this tab, your thermometer won’t work. Replace the battery when the low battery symbol ‘Bat’ flashes. Replace with a 3-volt, type CR2032, button-cell battery or equivalent. Use a screwdriver of suitable size to open the battery cover on the back. Install the battery observing the correct polarity, (+) positive side up, sliding the battery under the metal clip. Close the battery cover. Do not overtighten.
.
*NOTE: Some battery manufacturers recently began coating coin-style batteries in an invisible bitter coating to help prevent accidental ingestion. This coating can impede the connection between the battery and the circuit board, preventing the device from powering on. This coating can be removed by using an abrasive scrubbing pad and some water or rubbing alcohol to scrub the invisible coating off, much the same way you would clean a dirty spoon. Scrub both sides of the battery for approximately 30 seconds.

My ThermoPop 2 is displaying an LLL or HHH error. What does it mean?
There are several reasons your ThermoPop 2 may display either an LLL or HHH error, the most common being that the probe was damaged or broken.
If your ThermoPop 2 was exposed to temperatures above or below its temperature range (-58 to 572°F or -50 to 300°C), you may see one of these errors. The errors may also be indications that the probe suffered other types of damage.
Sometimes, doing a hard reset will resolve the problem. Remove the battery. Leave the battery out and the compartment open for at least one minute before installing a new battery.
Why did my ThermoPop 2 melt?
Your ThermoPop 2 is an instant-read thermometer and is meant to take quick temperatures while you hold it with your hand. It should not be left inside an oven, grill, smoker, or microwave. The body should not be exposed to sustained temperatures above 122°F (such as you will find in steam) by attaching it to a pan with a pot clip.
The operating range of the ThermoPop 2’s body is 32 to 122°F (0 to 50°C).
If you need a thermometer with a probe you can leave in your food as it cooks. You can find our list of cooking alarms here.
I have a new ThermoPop 2. The display reads 162 F° even when I use it to test meat temperatures. Why doesn’t the display change?
